“LORD, THAT I MAY
SEE.”
A SHORT COMMENTARY
ON THE GOSPEL OF THE DAY.
Gospel
Mark 3:7-12
He warned them not to make him known as the Son of God
1.
Jesus withdrew
with his disciples to the lakeside,
2.
and great crowds
from Galilee followed him.
3.
From Judaea,
Jerusalem, Idumaea, Transjordania and the region of Tyre and Sidon,
4.
great numbers who
had heard of all he was doing came to him.
5.
And he asked his
disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd,
6.
to keep him from
being crushed.
7.
For he had cured
so many that all who were afflicted in any way were crowding forward to touch
him.
8.
And the unclean
spirits, whenever they saw him, would fall down before him
9.
and shout, ‘You
are the Son of God!’ But he warned them strongly not to make him known.
In Jesus God
has broken into this world. Jesus is the ambassador of the Kingdom of God. Which
the Father will one day establish. In him, the Kingdom of God is making its
appearance. He brings God’s joy, peace, love and through him God’s power flows like a river.
People flock
to him to drink. He is the water of life.
I too should
approach him. Every time I touch the host, I touch Jesus. It is not bread. ‘This
is my Body given for you.’ He will do for me what he did for the people in
Galilee.
But since I
eat his Body and drink his Blood, I am to become him for others.
He should
manifest himself through me as he did through his human body in Galilee. I too
must become the source of joy, peace and love. God’s power to heal should flow
through me.
